Reporting and Assessing
All pupils in the school will have their learning continually assessed in order to monitor progress. Children in Reception and Nursery are assessed using the guidelines set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage and evidence is documented in their own Early Years folder. These folders are in the classrooms and you are welcome to share them with your child. Attainment at the end of Reception is measured against the Early Learning Goals. Most children's achievements will be in line with these goals and a significant percentage will be working at a higher level. This is achieved by developing positive, trusting relationships between parents and teachers where regular informal contact is encouraged.
| "The outcomes for children in the EYFS are outstanding. By the end of the EYFS almost all children achieve the Early Learning Goals across the whole curriculum and most work beyond". ISI Report 2010 |
Parents' Evenings take place termly so that parents can discuss their child's progress with their Class Teacher and with subject specialists. Written reports will be sent out twice a year in February and June.
There are rare occasions when our assessments suggest that a pupil may find difficulty coping with the academic demands of Royal Russell School. Should this be the case, parents will be alerted at an early stage and provided with guidance and support from all teachers involved.
