INTRODUCTION
Effective communication and empathic imagination extends life experience and the English department aims to develop these skills. The enthusiastic and specialist staff work with students to encourage a love of language and literature; to motivate and support students in order that both academic and social potential is achieved in a safe and healthy environment.

STRENGTHS OF THE DEPARTMENT

The importance of accurate communication skills, including speaking and listening is always emphasised but we also value creativity and the development of the individual imagination. Enthusiastic encouragement of student writing is complemented by a wide and varied choice of literary and non-literary texts to respond to and develop individual student interest. Individual attention and support enables significant student achievement.
