Y E A R 6 Once again no sooner had school started again in September, than it was time for PGL. Year 6, led by teachers Mr Naidoo and Mrs Bennett, travelled to the Marchants Hill centre near Hindhead, waving tearful goodbyes to their parents as the coach pulled out of the Royal Russell car park. Little did they know that by the end of the week they would not want to come home, such a good time had they had! The purpose of taking the children away so early in the year is to build a strong team, ready for the busy time ahead. Taking part in many adventurous and challenging activities promotes not only a sense of fun and camaraderie but also helps bond children and staff together, as well as being immensely motivating and exciting. Activities such as abseiling, quad biking, archery, rifle shooting and zipwire, are often done for the very first time. With support from friends, teachers and the PGL staff, pupils will achieve things they never thought possible. Being away from home, for some children for the first time, is also a valuable experience. Having to cope with all sorts of situations without mum and dad, finding out it is possible, is a very useful step towards the maturity required for Year 6 and beyond. As you can see from the photographs, it was muddy, grubby, sometimes nerve wracking, but above all GREAT FUN!! Jan Bennett |
