Royal Russell Prep School is renowned for it’s outstanding pastoral care and for the warm, friendly environment pupils enjoy throughout the years. These are achieved by employing a combination of class teachers, subject specialists and House Tutors.

In each year group there are two parallel forms and the children will spend most of their lessons with their class teacher until they reach Year 5. All children in the school will have their class Music lessons with the Head of Music and, from Year 1 upwards, will also have specialist teachers for PE & Games and ICT. In Years 5 & 6, further specialist teaching is introduced in Science, History, Geography, RE and French; Mathematics is then set by ability.

Each pupil will be allocated to one of the four Houses. Each house is composed of a vertical slice of the school and the House Tutors encourage team spirit and competition in all aspects of the curriculum. The children are keen to acquire House Credits and there is an exciting competition each term to discover which House has earned the largest number of Credits. There are House events of various kinds through the year in which the children can contribute both individually and collectively.

Personal, Social & Health Education pervades the curriculum and all members of staff contribute to the children’s personal development and the maintenance of our core values.

The Headmaster’s door is always open and pupils (and parents) are encouraged to pop in for an informal chat at any time. The children are keen to show Mr Hedges the evidence of their achievements and in return he awards Merit Cards in Assembly; Fortunate individuals can acquire a Gold Merit Badge if their efforts are persistently good.

The class teacher is responsible for the children’s pastoral care, in the first instance, and is supported by House Tutors and the Sanatorium staff. Pupils and parents are always welcome to initiate a discussion with any member of staff, should the need arise.
