Drama

The pupils in the Prep School are offered many opportunities to participate in creative drama ranging from role-play through extemporisation to formal plays.

The Prep School Assembly Hall provides a useful drama studio and theatre and all classes may use the Hall for formal and informal drama work. Its shape and orientation mean that, even when there is an audience of 200, performers on the stage are never too far away from their target, and this helps to give young actors the confidence to deliver their parts without inhibition.

The Hall boasts very good stage facilities with a first class radio-microphone sound system, excellent stage lighting and pulley operated scenery-changers.

All pupils will participate in dramatic productions during the course of a year and these may be small-scale form plays performed to the rest of the school or major musical productions performed before an audience of parents and governors.Picture of pantomime

Our Drama Co-ordinator is a very fine playwright and the school has been thrilled by his wonderful productions. Inspired by his example, teachers from all age groups give their classes splendid opportunities to participate in plays and this encourages the individual children to grow in self-confidence and “become accustomed to public speaking

National Poetry Day is always marked by a feast of recitation and choral speaking, allowing the children to develop a love for the beauty and excitement of poetry and prose and helping to extend their skills in memorising poems and speeches
