M U S I C The Junior School Music Department is practically a school The school has its own large stock of instruments, which allows all the children in Year 1 to learn a string instrument and, in Y2, a choice of wind instruments. Specialist teachers facilitate this programme which is provided at no extra charge to parents. After the Lower Junior instrumental programme, the children may then continue to learn a musical instrument on a one-to-one basis and a scale of fees is published for such lessons. Over half of the pupils in the school learn a musical instrument and have the opportunity to join every kind of ensemble. There are two or three informal concerts per term, plus a number of more formal events. The children are also extremely successful in graded music exams, by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and other recognised boards. Children compete in all the major local music festivals each year, achieving excellent results.
