The children joined the actors in fighting the fire, which encouraged the children to have empathy with the event. The children were so enthusiastic they wanted to pass on their knowledge to the rest of the School through a superb assembly.
Year 2 continued their historical investigations with a visit to the National Army Museum in Chelsea to learn more about Florence Nightingale. The morning started with Tristan bringing the story of Florence Nightingale to life! To enhance his story the children dressed in uniforms from the past. This historical journey was then taken well and truly into the past by the children investigating artefacts and discussing their uses. The children enjoyed the opportunity to examine evidence from the past.
Year 1 have had some super outings, visiting Reigate Priory Toy Museum, Kew Gardens and the Science Museum.
At Reigate the children had the opportunity to learn about and play with toys from the past. The teachers were interested to see that some of the toys that they played with as children were now museum exhibits!
At Kew Gardens we followed up our topic on Growing by looking at the flora and fauna and investigating in the Climbers and Creepers interactive exhibition.
At the Science Museum the children enjoyed experimenting and interacting in the Launch Pad. After lunch they helped the three little pigs build their houses and try to stop the wolf from blowing them down. This was a lovely conclusion to our topic on Materials.
All this made learning fun in Key Stage 1. |
