This has been an exciting and triumphant first year.  We moved into the new house in September 2005 with the paint still wet.  The girls had been allowed to select the colours for themselves, which was mainly successful, though the Year 8 students’ choice  created quite a stir! Hollenden has already done great things, both on the sports field and in the more scholastic competitions.  Well done, everyone.  The Year 8 and Year 9 pieces below summarise the girls’ feelings about their new house.

Year 8
This year has been fantastic and it is all thanks to the staff!
At first we were all a little annoyed that we were the year that had been chosen to go into a boys’ house and that we would have to try to make it into our home!

We are all really happy now.  It is a spacious and relaxing place.  Before we moved in we were allowed to choose the colour of the walls for our room and stupidly we chose bright orange and custard yellow.   It was so bright that we really hated it at first, because it clashed with everything.  Now we have  become used to it, we like it, as it reflects our bubbly and lively personalities!  We love our windows, because we can wave to people in the mornings.  There’s always a nice atmosphere and we are all really good friends. We have all received our Hollenden shirts and jumpers and we really like them.

We are really attached to Hollenden, and all the other houses should be really jealous, because Hollenden are the best, especially Year 8!

Year 9 Poem

We started on September the 6th,
And we all had butterfly kicks,
We really did not want to leave,
Because we knew we would miss Reade.
When we came in and first sat down,
We all had an enormous frown.
But when Ms Missan came in
We all had a nice, big grin.
So we all got into the flow
Right from the word “go”.
We placed our handprints on the walls
To leave our mark …..
Badminton was the first sport we played
We won and that is how it stayed.
At sports day we got to wear our pink tops
And, of course, rocked everyone’s socks.
Our first year of Hollenden was so great
Except the fight with the Year 8s.
Now, thankfully, we are all friends
And that’s where our Year 9 story ends.
