The residents of  Reade House have enjoyed yet another busy year, full of the usual sporting excitement and examination success.

The social year began with our Coffee Morning, the proceeds of which went to Macmillan Cancer Relief.  This is always a very entertaining and delicious event, and I would like to thank all of those who contributed cakes, time and money.  You can be sure that we will be repeating this event next year and scrambling, as usual, for a slice of Mrs Pearce’s coffee cake!

Sport, as ever, played a large part in the life of Reade girls.  Our Head of Sport, Charlotte Bell, has done a sterling job rallying the teams for the second year, and her passion for sport has been a great encouragement.  Our Junior team in particular deserves to be extremely proud, as they have won many of the junior events this year.  Very well done, especially to Elizabeth Ashworth, Isabel Eden, Sophie Conroy, Amy Muldoon, Sophia Nella and Chantelle Chambers.  Special praise goes to Laura Kastoryano, who won the Girls Cross-Country competition yet again.  Although the senior team was not quite so successful, we still managed second place overall and look forward to picking up the baton once more in the coming round of events.  Watch out for our ‘Reade Raiders’ Hoodies which will be showcased next year under the guidance, this time, of Camilla Russell.

At Christmas, Santa as usual took a break from his hectic schedule to visit Reade House and distribute gifts at our party.  He was entertained by the various talents of girls and staff alike, reciting poems, performing dance routines, singing, playing the piano and even telling jokes, until he had to depart to feed the reindeer.  Thank you, Mr Barrett!

February saw the return of the Bring and Buy Sale held in the Prep School Hall.  Thanks to all the mums and dads for clearing out their cupboards and, hopefully, some of you snapped up a few bargains to fill them back up again.

The end of the School year also saw another annual Reade event, namely the Summer Concert, most ably hosted and organised by our very own Mr Sutton and Social Event Co-ordinator Caroline Culbert.  Of particular note were Lauren Ede, performing one of her own compositions on the guitar, and Lucy Marsh singing a duet, with a guest appearance by Folarin Akinmade (who is still not an official Reade girl!).  Thank you also to Natasha Dickinson for her debut performance and, of course, Kirstie Eden and Camilla Russell for their duet.  Rosie Powell also braved the crowds, who enjoyed a fun evening.  Thank you once again to the mums who contributed tasty snacks and beverages, and I hope to see you next year, same time same place.

Finally, I come to the thanks and goodbyes.  Thank you most of all to Rachel Williams, who has proved herself to be a superb Head of House.
Although she is a hard act to follow, I have no doubt that the new Head of House, Caroline Culbert, will put her own stamp on the job, and I look forward to working with her.  Caroline is stepping down as Head of Entertainment to concentrate on her new role, and her shoes will be filled by Laura Donovan. As mentioned, Camilla Russell  will take over from Charlotte Bell as Head of House Sport next year for a two-year period, and I look forward to continuing our excellent record.

My thanks also go to Miss Hicks (Year 8 Tutor), Mrs Howard (Year 7 Tutor), Mr Sutton (Year 10 tutor) and Mrs Edwards (Year 12 and 13 tutor).  Indeed it is farewell to Mrs Edwards, who has moved on to pastures new, and we all wish her well. Without them and their hard work Reade would certainly not have run so smoothly, nor with such a cheerful and friendly atmosphere.  Goodbye and good luck also to the departing Year 13 and Year 11 pupils as they move on to bigger and better things.  Keep in touch!

Once again I have been proud to be your Housemistress. Here’s to another excellent Reade House year, my sixth as Housemistress.  Don’t forget the theatre trip to ‘Billy Elliott’ in October!
