Where has this year gone? It seems as if it was only yesterday that I was writing last year’s report!

The autumn term began, as always, with the new keen and excited Yr 7s joining the House and finished with a good number of our talented young ladies performing in the Christmas Revue.

During the term, at the Christmas Fair we ran our usual tombola stall which groaned under the weight of gifts generously donated by parents and raised a goodly sum for House funds. The term ended with Christmas lunch and our now infamous party games. It is amazing to see how creative and imaginative each tutor group can be when dressing up one of their number using only three materials – a black sack, sellotape and a length of tinsel!

It was super to see such a good crowd of parents supporting the girls at the Swimming Gala. Apart from the Cross Country, this is the only opportunity where we can see girls of all ages competing together and it was wonderful to observe such a great team spirit. There were many excellent achievements on the night but congratulations must go to Maddie Steer and Kim Trang Ngo for each breaking school records.

In the Senior House Athletics Championship, Buchanan were clear winners with a stunning sixty nine points lead! In fact, the girls won all but one of the twelve events! Many congratulations to all our fine athletes and in particular to Alvina Benjamin-Taylor for [yet again] winning the Senior Vitrix Ludorum. The junior team also performed well on their Sports Day to ensure that Buchanan collected the House Athletics cup for the fourth consecutive year. Although Buchanan came second overall in the House Championship, the girls collected ten out of the possible twenty one trophies on Royal Russell Day. A special mention must go to Shannan Scott who came first in her event at the Croydon Athletics, won both the 100m and 200m in the Junior athletics and was our top runner in the House cross country. Well done girls to all for a brilliant effort and also to Sports Captain, Susie Beere for her enthusiastic leadership.

We rounded off the summer term with a farewell meal for Jackie Roe, our dedicated sixth form tutor and took the opportunity to wish her a long, healthy and restful retirement. However, she will still be attached to the House as she is coming back, part time in September.

This report would not be complete without a word of thanks to my conscientious group of House prefects ably led by Sam McIntyre as Head of House and to wish those leaving every success in the future. Also to say what a pleasure it has been working with such a great team of tutors and to thank each of them for their commitment and support throughout the year.
