This was another good year for Oxford House, with a great number of the boys contributing significantly to success in academic, sporting, musical or drama areas. It is impossible to acknowledge everyone’s achievements here but they have not gone unnoticed! It was time to let another enjoy the House Championship which we surrendered after six winning years, settling for second place. The senior boys were again consistent throughout the year, winning the five-a-side football, table-tennis and basketball. However there were a few second places and missed chances. The juniors tried hard, limited by a lack of numbers, coming close in the five-a-side football and cricket tournaments. The two major events of the year, athletics and swimming were won by Oxford but the cancellation of the cross country hit us hard. However, next year … watch out! It was a very good team effort throughout the year with an excellent level of commitment from the Oxford boys. Ryan Walters organised the teams well and proved to be a good motivator for the juniors. Individually Elliot Welch won the “Victor” on athletics day with a superb display of sprinting and jumping. Many of the boys competed for the school, with Oxford dominating the football first eleven, swimming squad and table-tennis team. We had other representatives in basketball, cricket and hockey. Several boys achieved regional recognition in their particular sports, with Tsidi Dagadu, Elliot Welch and Will Hodson in particular representing Croydon and Surrey in athletics. It was a pleasure throughout the year to read so many good reports. There were some excellent results at GCSE and particular mention should go to Jason Cho, Tom Henderson and Peter Kong. At AS we congratulate Joram Sengendo, Amar Dhesi and Allen Wen particularly as we do Alexy Sitnikov and Chris Knight at A level. On Royal Russell Day, a number of individual awards were given. Callum McPhail was awarded the exam prize for Yr 7; Jason Cho achieved the GCSE Chemistry prize and Joram Sengendo for 6th form Biology. Alex Karavs received the 6th form Design and Technology award and Chris Knight was recognised for 6th form Music. In music and drama, the boys excelled, contributing enormously to the events of the year. Will Hodson, Chris Knight, Peter Kong, Alex Taylor, Woody Cheng, Angus McPhail and Callum Welch were all hard working members of the Barbershop and Choir. Chris, Jason Cho and Alex Taylor were part of the school orchestra. All of these boys contributed to some outstanding performances in school and “on tour” throughout the year. Not easily forgotten. Callum and Elliot Welch provided some excellent entertainment at different events in the year. There were a number of very successful events this year, including the Christmas party which was as riotous as ever and long may it continue! Although the Summer Boarders’ Barbecue was a bit of a wash-out, the Oxford boys had an excellent one on Champions League final night. We said our farewells to Yr 13 at this event. The boarders also had memorable Christmas and Halloween dinners and a Christmas ice-skating trip. Huge thanks from me to the loyal Oxford staff, Mr Ellis, Mr Barrett, Mr Finch, Mr Moore and Miss Latessa. Mr Barrett has retired from teaching and his contributions to the house will be sorely missed. However, he will be returning to do some boarding duties, so the cheery sound of his whistling will still be heard by the boarders at seven in the morning at weekends! Also thanks to Jonny Sasati, Head of House and our main sportsman and finally a big thank you to all of the Oxford boys for their hard work, commitment and good humour throughout the year.
