2006/7 was a very busy, exciting and productive year in Queen’s House. After Mrs Fox’s departure I took over the housemistress role with Miss Cripps as my assistant and Miss Cassim as deputy. With the loyal help of Tracy Huang, Emma Michell, Ksenia Titova and Ruki Umaru, we planned a variety of new events and charity functions. At the beginning of the year, we set up The Queen’s House Council where we discuss how to improve what we do in the house and to prepare the type of activities that everyone wanted to do. As a result we had sleepovers, fashion shows and various trips and excursions. The sleepovers involved silly games, DVDs and eating too much pizza. It was great for both day pupils and boarders to mix together at the weekend even if it meant sleeping on the sitting room floor. Much silliness and fun was had by all on these occasions. Our major achievement of the year as a house was certainly the Queen’s House Fashion show that was the brain child of Naomi Amobi (our new Head of House for 2007/8). This involved a large number of girls performing in The Great Hall in aid of the NSPCC and was a massive success raising £484. Many donations for the raffle were organised by Mrs Cassim who managed to secure extremely generous gifts from Harrods. Our house trip of the year was visiting Chessington World of Adventures where we were all turned upside down on the rides including Mr Rocca who managed to lose his sunglasses and a shoe! Our crowning glory as a house came towards the end of the academic year when on Royal Russell Day we were announced as House Sports champions. Our thanks go to sports captain Emma Michell, and Jemma Hill who worked tirelessly last year to organise teams and encourage students to play. Mel Davenport
