The aim of the Council is to represent the views of the student body on any issues which may concern pupils and to present them to the Senior Management of the School. The Council meet once a month, during a school lunch break and consists of a representative from each House. The Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl take it in turn to chair the meetings and take minutes. They then produce a written report to the Headmaster on a monthly basis. There is also a sub committee from the boarding houses which meets twice a term to concentrate solely on matters within the Boarding Houses. This year, Student Council have once again taken a major royal in the organising of several charity events. In November they raised awareness of the ‘Anti Bullying Alliance’ and during Anti -Bullying week they helped raised £500 for Childline. They did this by selling Anti-Bullying dog tags and wrist bands. The council also presented two assemblies to highlight that bullying will not be tolerated in our school and how we can work together to create a happy environment for everyone. In December a mufti day raised £1,300 for Great Ormond Street Hospital and on the same day The Christmas Revue raised £500 for NSPCC. In January the students worked with the Chaplain to raise money for ‘Water Aid’. Each House was allocated a bucket and had one month to collect as many pennies as possible. Over £300 was collected for this venture. The Council’s final fund raising event was in June. They organised a ‘Green’ Mufti day which raised £500 for recycling and a ‘Green Group’ has now been set up to promote greater awareness of Green issues. The council continued to campaign for improvements around the school and were delighted to receive money from the 1853 Parents’ Association to purchase three picnic bench/tables. These have helped create a pleasant social area for pupils to meet up and chat by the tennis courts. Suzanne Thomas-Webb
