Since the reorganization of the Council three years ago, the pupils felt it was the right time to widen their understanding of how school councils work in other establishments and voted to attend the Student Council Training Day in London. The recently established School Councils Network enables schools to share ideas, celebrate success and support one another . The morning saw a variety of seminars leading to open discussion on topics such as ‘How big is your budget?’ and ‘How do you raise the profile of your Student Council?’, while the afternoon session examined issues such as fund-raising, anti-bullying campaigns and the school curriculum. The event concluded with pupils being encouraged to share areas of success. The day was deemed extremely worthwhile. Once again the Student Council has been particularly active in raising money for charity. The students organised a ‘Mufti Day’ on the day of the Christmas Lunch, raising £1,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital. For the second year running, pupils and staff demonstrated considerable talent in a variety of ways in the Christmas Revue. To watch, pupils either paid £1.00 or donated food, which was packed into boxes and delivered to the Crisis at Christmas warehouse in London. The £175 raised from donations went to Cancer Research. The Student Council organised two Chapel services this year. The first was to launch our overseas venture for WaterAid called Buckets of Pennies. Each house was given a bucket, and pupils and staff had two weeks to empty their pockets of pennies. We collected £277.53, which will be used to help provide clean water for people in Africa and Asia. The second Chapel presentation on recycling has promoted considerable thought
