C C F A N N U A L . R E P O R T The Royal Russell CCF wishes to acknowledge the work done by Lt Col. Peter Green and was saddened by his sudden death following his retirement. All our thoughts continue to be with his wife and family. The new academic year welcomed Mr Colin Leggatt as the new Contingent Commander. As well as this, both Mrs Sue Strutt and Mrs Sue Addis of the Senior School Common Room joined the team, which is now our largest officer base for several years. Congratulations to AUO Netherway (formerly Edwards), who accepted her first commission into the RAF Section as Pilot Officer, on her return from a voluntary teaching sabbatical in Guyana. It has been an extremely busy and successful year, with more than a hundred pupils on roll. The Contingent continues to grow from strength to strength and is now able to offer a range of training opportunities that is wider than ever. The Autumn Term was spent in training to prepare for the annual January camp, which this year took place at Browndown Training Camp in Gosport, Portsmouth. The weekend had a full programme covering first aid skills and signals training, and fun was had by all! The Spring Term saw the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver groups successfully complete their practice expeditions on the South Downs. Final expeditions then took place on the South Downs (Bronze) and on Dartmoor (Silver). Well done to all who took part. With such a high number of pupils on roll, we have had more cadets than ever participating in the programme. The Summer Term brought longer evenings and enabled the whole Contingent to brush up their skills ready for the Annual Summer Camps. The Army Section attended camp at Crowborough and the RAF Section at RAF Cottesmore. Both camps were a great success, with the Army Section winning both the first aid and the drill competitions. Congratulation to all who participated. Camps like these enabled all pupils to consolidate the skills that had been learned throughout the year. As well as all the above, the Contingent has been on a number of excursions. Cadets once again attended the Cavalry Parade in London, where they assisted veterans throughout the day. It was a fun day which also provided an opportunity to raise the profile of our School CCF. One cadet was able to complete work experience at the Cavalry and Guards Club. The RAF Section enjoyed excursions to RAF Benson as well as HMS Kent. Our Summer Adventure Training was to the south of France, where a relaxing week was had by all. I should like to express my thanks to all the Officers, Staff and Cadets for the support and commitment they have offered the Contingent . Squadron Leader C. P. Leggatt
