YEAR 10 In our game against Selsdon High both teams batted well. As a result, it was a high-scoring match, with Selsdon coming out on top, 18-15. Against St Dunstan’s we batted well, with some excellent running between the bases, forcing our opponents into making fielding errors. We won 9-8 ½ . At the Croydon Schools Tournament we lost in the semi-finals. YEAR 9 We started well against Selsdon High in what was a very even game during the first innings. We pulled ahead slightly in the second as we were in bat first, but Selsdon had fielded competently and had kept our score down. We were sure it would be enough. The team played brilliantly and fielded with confidence. The final score was 10 ½ to 6 ½ to Royal Russell. Another close game followed against St Dunstan’s. Bowlers from both teams performed well, making it hard for the batters. We were unlucky to lose 3-4. At their tournament we came sixth overall. YEAR 8 The Year 8 team dominated Archbishop Tenison’s in a friendly match. Sharp fielding and consistent batting resulted in a 12-2 win. We were the defending champions at the Croydon Schools Tournament this year. During the sections we were unbeaten and met Harris CTC in the semi-final. We won comfortably and played Croydon High in the final. This was a repeat final from the previous year. Their bowler played extremely well and made it difficult for our team to get a good hit on the ball. Croydon High had their revenge and beat us in the final. YEAR 7 The rounders this season was hampered by poor weather at the start of the Summer Term. Unfortunately this meant that some fixtures could not be played, and there was little time to rearrange them in such a short term. Despite this, we enjoyed success. For example, the Year 7 managed to beat Archbishop Tenison’s by 23 rounders to 3! Surely this is a season of ‘what might have been’ for the Year 7s. Let’s hope that next year the weather holds off and they’ll be able to show what they are capable of. L. T. Hicks
