Once again in July 2005 we were host to several international players, including Matthew Syed, Timo Boll and Jorgen Persson, who trained in our Sports Hall  prior to competing in  the Ocean International Cup held at Fairfield Halls.

In addition to the U13, U16 and U19 teams that we fielded in the Surrey Schools League, we had several pupils who also competed in the Surrey Schools tournaments held in Sutton. Kim-Trang Ngo was particularly successful, winning the girls’ U15 singles and representing Surrey in the Nationals.

We are particularly pleased that some of our sixth formers have now become junior umpires and level one table tennis coaches. Congratulations go to James Gilham (Introduction to Coaching and Junior Umpire), Jamie Ivory (Introduction to Coaching), and Caroline Culbert (Introduction to Coaching).

The introduction of two outdoor all-weather table tennis tables for the use of Keable and St. Andrews pupils has certainly increased the level of interest (if not expertise) in table tennis among junior pupils.

School training and coaching are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays,  and Fridays, with additional coaching available on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6.30 to 9.00 p.m. as part of the South Croydon Table Tennis Development Club hosted by Royal Russell School.  Newcomers are very welcome!

Looking forward to continued success in the new season!

Sandra Culbert
