Starting the Admissions Process and Arranging Your Visit
We are delighted that you are considering Royal Russell School for the Sixth Form.
We hope that our website and prospectus will give you an idea of what Royal Russell can offer in terms of facilities and educational opportunities but we should also like to warmly invite you to visit us so that you can truly experience the atmosphere and ethos of our school. You will have much to discover and consider when choosing a school for the Sixth Form and we are here to help you.
Open Morning
This is held in the Autumn Term and offers a chance for the whole family to visit the school for an informal viewing. No appointment is required. All teaching departments are represented. Our next Open Morning is on Saturday 22 September 2012 from 8:30am to 1:00pm.
Sixth Form Open Evening
If you are looking for a challenge, Royal Russell Sixth Form offers some very special opportunities both with and beyond the academic curriculum. Our Sixth Form students enjoy the choice of 24 different subjects at AS and A level and study in a beautiful campus with the very latest facilities as they prepare for university life. With 180 students our Sixth Form is large enough to provide exciting and challenging co-curricular opportunities and students enjoy developing their skills in sport, music, and drama alongside the leadership opportunities provided by the CCF and the Model United Nations.
We are academically ambitious for each of our pupils and our outstanding results at A level reflect the 'added value' we offer, often boosting our candidates performance by a number of grades. This success leads to strong university applications and an enviable record in placing students at their top UCAS choice.
Our Headmaster, Chris Hutchinson, looks forward to welcoming you and explaining the many benefits of being part of our forward looking community. You will then have the chance to discuss your A level choices with our highly qualified staff.
You will not be disappointed!

Sixth Form Entrance Criteria
We require six GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English and Maths but excluding other native languages, with minimum grade B in the subjects to be studied at AS level. Some subjects may require a higher grade, for example GCSE grade A in Maths to study Maths or Economics at A level. It is also recommended that pupils have GCSE A grade in the science subjects they wish to study at A level. Some subjects which may not have been studied previously at GCSE level, such as Media Studies, Business Studies, Economics and Politics, also have a requirement of GCSE English Language at Grade B.
Students who register with us will be invited for interview and a reference will be requested from their current school. Places will be offered to candidates on the basis of their interview and school reports and will then be subject to GCSE results.
International students applying from overseas who are non-native English speakers and who are not taking GCSE exams will be assessed on the basis of our own English and Maths tests, together with consideration of their current school reports.
Most students in our Sixth Form community study four subjects at AS level in Year 12 (Lower Sixth) and then continue with three of them at A2 level in Year 13 (Upper Sixth). Subject to academic progress, some students may drop one subject in Year 13 and may then take up a new AS subject instead. Royal Russell Sixth Form is small enough to offer individual pupils such flexibility in their studies whilst being large enough to support an excellent range of courses. Each year the exact pattern of option choices is adjusted to best meet the needs of our students.
Sixth Form students at Royal Russell benefit from great opportunities for personal development. Our extensive facilities and excellent pastoral care maintain our place at the forefront of educational provision.
