Swimming Success for Oludaisi - March 2013
Congratulations to Oludaisi in Year 8, on his fine performance in the DSE National Junior and Youth Championships, held in Sheffield on 2nd and 3rd March 2013. Oludaisi came first in his group in the 50m Backstroke and was awarded Gold. He was awarded Silver in the 100m Freestyle and Bronze in the 100m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle. Oludaisi is now looking to build on his success when he competes later this year in another national competition but against swimmers older than himself. Well done!
England v Australia Netball Trip to Wembley - January 2013
On the 23rd of January, a group of aspiring young netballers in years 5-10 travelled to Wembley arena, accompanied by Mrs Hicks, Ms Culliford, Mrs Lloyd and the 2 gap students Lauren Turner and Alisoun Townsend to watch England take on Australia in the final of 3 international netball test match. It was a thrilling game, filled with ice cream breaks and nail-biting till the very end, but England managed to scrape a win 51-49 and took out the series!
Croydon Schools' Sports Hall Athletics Finals - January 2013
Congratulations to the U11 Sports Hall athletics team who managed to win the finals competition at Monks Hill Sports Centre. Royal Russell were closely followed on their heels by Whitehorse Manor School and eventually won by 4 points. The closing relay races were incredibly exciting events. The team are now Croydon Schools' Champions and will go through to represent Croydon in the London Youth Games. This is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. An estimated 100,000 young Londoners took part in 2012 which was the most ever since its launch in 1977.
James Picks Up Gold - August 2012
James competed in an international tournament in Belgium this August. He won gold medals in the Under 13 individual event and the U13 team event. He was also able to pick up a bronze medal in an adult category which had about 100 participants. James will now travel to Strasbourg, France, from the 23 - 26 August to represent England in the Under 11 European Championships. Go to Etta article, click here.
More Success for Jazz UPDATE! - July 2012
Jazz was competing against some of the best athletes from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland and she won gold for the 100m with a time of 12.28 at the South of England AA Championships on Saturday 14 July. On the weekend of 18 August, she then went on to win bronze for the 100m and gold for the 200m at England Athletics Championships. Jazz is now enjoying a flourish of publicity as a result of beating the defending champion's title in the 200m with a time of 24.48. Many congratulations Jazz. We are so proud of you. Success for Year 9 Athletes - June 2012
Congratulations to Jazz who has become the Surrey Schools 200m Junior Girls' Champion and Daniel who was runner-up in the 1,500m Junior Boys' race. Both pupils were subsequently selected to represent the County in their chosen events. Recently, Dan ran a commendable 1,500m time of 4mins 29secs in the SE Inter-Counties Schools race.
Junior Mixed Rounders Success - June 2012
This June, the U11 mixed rounders team won the Croydon Schools Mixed Rounders Tournament in great style. They beat Gresham, Chipstead Valley and St Chads in three very exciting games scoring a total of 17 1/2 rounders. The win sees them into the national schools final to be held in northants in July!
James Makes International Selection - June 2012
James has been selected to play for England in the Under 11 European Championships being held in Strasbourg (France) from the 23 to 26 August 2012. This follows his recent successes in winning the London Schools' Championships (representing Royal Russell School) and his Silver Medal in the England National Championships.
A Gold Medal and a Personal Best for Jazz - May 2012
Congratulations must go to Jazz who continues to work extremely hard this athletic season. Recently at the Croydon Schools meeting she ran a very close race coming in 2nd with a time of 12.4, this left Jazz slightly disappointed with her performance but the time for 1st place was 12.3 which is something that Jazz will aim to beat as the season progresses!
Swimming Finalists - May 2012
Saturday 19 May saw the Independent Schools National Swimming Final take place at the K2 leisure centre in
Crawley. Two of our talented swimmers Christos (Year 7) from Madden House and Jack (Year 8) from Oxford House had both qualified for the national event.
Trampoline Squad Success - May 2012
The Royal Russell Junior School Trampoline Squad proved that they could compete with the best in their first ever trampolining competition taking part in the at the IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) Trampolining Championships at Millfield school in
Somerset this weekend.
Max's Lacrosse Success - May 2012
Max (Year 9, St Andrew's) has graduated to the England U15 Lacrosse Training camp held at Manchester University later this month. Max, who is a keen all-round sportsman, has represented the school at football, hockey, cricket and athletics, but it is in the relatively minor sport (in this country) of Lacrosse that he excels.
Success at the England Schools' Table Tennis Finals April 2012
On Saturday 21 April James represented Royal Russell School in the England Schools' Individual Table Tennis Finals in Doncaster. As the top seed he reached the final with ease without even dropping a game. In the final he met the number two seed from Hampshire.
International Table Tennis Success - April 2012
One weekend in April 2012 saw James in Year Six representing England in a seven nation international table tennis tournament in Largs, Scotland. As the England number one, he won an impressive 14 out of 17 matches in the team event. Unfortunately the England number 3 was unwell and they had to give 3 walkovers in every match to the other teams. However, they still managed to win the team Bronze medal. On the final day there was an individual tournament. James continued with his winning streak, reaching the final and picking up the individual Silver medal. Well done James!
Senior School Annual Ski Trip - February 2012
Over February half term, 30 excited students and 5 intrepid staff set off for the now annual pilgrimage to the Rocky Mountains, and a new resort for Royal Russell - Brighton, just 30 minutes from our Salt Lake City base.
