The Olympic Volunteers are Ready to Go! - May 2012
The Olympic flame has been lit at the Temple of Hera, next to the historic ruins of the ancient Olympic games and the tension is rising as we await its arrival in the UK this Thursday, prior to it beginning its journey around the UK on Friday. Three of these volunteers who are simply delighted to be part of London 2012 are based at Royal Russell School and for each of them it is a chance to get involved in a once in a life time experience.

The Royal Russell Junior School Trampoline Squad proved that they could compete with the best in their first ever trampolining competition taking part in the at the IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) Trampolining Championships at Millfield school in Somerset this weekend.

'r' School Newspaper Issue 3 Out Now - May 2012
The third issue of r – Royal Russell’s student newspaper – was published this week, ahead of being distributed in houses. The May edition of the student-written and edited newspaper is an exam special, coinciding with the start of a seven-week examination period at the school.

Hockey Trip to Olympic Park - May 2012
Two groups travelled up to the Riverbank Arena last week for a fantastic evening of Hockey. The Olympic park in itself was an amazing sight to see and walking round we saw the Aqautics centre the Olympic Stadium and the Veledrome all looking simply awesome ready for London 2012.

Junior School Ski Trip - April 2012

After such a fantastically successful Junior School ski trip in 2011, once again, a very brave group of staff (and parents!) embarked upon yet another Junior School skiing venture, this year to the resort of Santa Caterina in Italy.
This year, due to popular demand the group size increased to 101 including pupils from Reception to Year 7 as well as staff and accompanying parents. The trip set off on Saturday 31 March. Split into two coach and plane loads, each with its own travel itinerary via Milan, the group was finally united as a whole at breakfast time on the Sunday, all eager to be equipped with their skis, boots, poles and helmets ready the first day on the slopes! The Royal Russell Primary Mathematics Olympiad - May 2012
The Royal Russell Primary Mathematics Olympiad is an afternoon of absorbing mathematical activity for gifted and talented Year 5 pupils from schools across Surrey. This year, twenty Junior Schools participated, with teams of four pupils competing in a carousel of written and practical problem solving activities, displaying very some impressive thinking skills in the process.

Mock London Mayor Elections - May 2012

Mayoral election fever peaked and not just in the centre of London it would seem. Pupils were also feeling campaign pressure as the election drew ever nearer. Timed to coincide with the real London elections, the School decided to bring the excitement of the real election to those not yet old enough to participate in the official process, by running there very own mock election.

R. Oscars Media Studies Exhibition April 2012
A packed house enjoyed the inaugural R.Oscars Awards, a night celebrating the achievements of Royal Russell’s Media students, hosted by Dilshan. The first award, Best Co-Curricular Video was won by Eden for MUN TV: The Crisis. This was followed by the prize for Year 12 Music Video. Success at the England Schools' Table Tennis Finals April 2012
On Saturday 21 April James represented Royal Russell School in the England Schools' Individual Table Tennis Finals in Doncaster. As the top seed he reached the final with ease without even dropping a game. In the final he met the number two seed from Hampshire.

International Table Tennis Success - April 2012
One weekend in April 2012 saw James in Year Six representing England in a seven nation international table tennis tournament in Largs, Scotland. As the England number one, he won an impressive 14 out of 17 matches in the team event. Unfortunately the England number 3 was unwell and they had to give 3 walkovers in every match to the other teams. However, they still managed to win the team Bronze medal. On the final day there was an individual tournament. James continued with his winning streak, reaching the final and picking up the individual Silver medal. Well done James!

Royal Russell Singer to Perform at Royal College of Music - April 2012

Jason Meets the Prime Minister - April 2012
Jason, a Year 13 student at Royal Russell School and member of the Conservative party, attended a rally at Orpington Village Hall to hear Boris Johnson speaking as part of his bid to retain his role as London Mayor. There was an unannounced guest appearance by the Prime Minister and Jason managed to meet both Boris and the Prime Minister.
