Top Author Has Students Enthralled! - October 2011
|
Students in
Year 7 were lucky enough to spend time with the New York Times best selling
author GP Taylor today.
The session
also saw the author asking for volunteers in order to take the students through
a captivating creative writing class. GP Taylor gave out minor
roles in his discussions in order to demonstrate various techniques employed by
writers. He went on to look at the
importance of characters within a book, “without characters we have no fiction
books”, he said. He challenged them to look at people they know and write down
several positive things about them and then write down several bad things, GP Taylor explained all
characters can be based on people we observe or know, we can simply change or
add things to them.
During his
presentations the pupils were given the opportunity to ask GP Taylor questions and he was also available
for any book signings and further questions after lunch.
