Junior School Ski Trip - April 2012

After such a fantastically successful Junior School ski trip in 2011, once again, a very brave group of staff (and parents!) embarked upon yet another Junior School skiing venture, this year to the resort of Santa Caterina in Italy.

This year, due to popular demand the group size increased to 101 including pupils from Reception to Year 7 as well as staff and accompanying parents. The trip set off on Saturday 31 March. Split into two coach and plane loads, each with its own travel itinerary via Milan, the group was finally united as a whole at breakfast time on the Sunday, all eager to be equipped with their skis, boots, poles and helmets ready the first day on the slopes!

The focus for each day was indeed skiing. Instruction was available for all levels and amongst the group were several beginners who began their lessons on the Nursery slopes, whilst other groups developed their skills and began to explore the ski runs higher up the resort above the first chair.

As confidence grew, the beginners soon joined the rest of the group above the first chair. Here, ski instruction continued for all levels, including staff and parents. The more advanced ski class even had the chance to try out snowboarding for a couple of days. Those more independent went in seek of some adventure and took the opportunity to free ski and explore the slopes of the wider resort. The newly installed bubble took skiers over to the well known ‘Sunni Valley' where the views were beautiful and there was the opportunity to enjoy an occasional drink at a very lively mountain side restaurant. With everyone on the slopes together, team spirit was very high and despite the odd bump and bruise, a great time was clearly being had by all.

The fun did not end when we left the slopes at the end of each day. In the evening there was plenty of après ski for everyone! The Hotel Signori 3, where we were resident for the week, had a beautiful swimming pool and spa facility where the children and grown ups had the chance to unwind on a couple of evenings. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the pizza night at a local restaurant where they were served fresh stone baked pizzas and the disco night was certainly one of the highlights of the week where there was a real buzz of fun and excitement! Parents were able to enjoy some time off in the evenings in the comfort of our hotel and some ventured out to enjoy the night life that Santa Caterina had on offer.

The trip was a great opportunity for staff, parents and children to spend time together in a relaxed environment. Team spirit was definitely the essence of the whole trip and there was great sense of ‘family' amongst the group. It was a real pleasure to see everyone have so much fun and already, many are in anticipation of the Junior Ski Trip 2013! Many thanks go out to all the children, staff and parents, not least Mr Thompson, for what was yet another truly brilliant ski trip!
