A packed house enjoyed the inaugural R.Oscars Awards, a night celebrating the achievements of Royal Russell’s Media students, hosted by Dilshan. The first award, Best Co-Curricular Video was won by Eden for MUN TV: The Crisis. This was followed by the prize for Year 12 Music Video.
Darya deservedly picked up the R.Oscar but
Teodor merited recognition in what was an exceptionally strong category.
After the intermission, attention turned to the Year 13 prizes, with several Old Russellians and former Media students awarding the R.Oscar trophies. Former Head Boy, Tsidi Dagadu, who is completing his postgraduate studies in Marketing at Warwick, and Loveday Weller, Ex-President of GA, currently juggling careers in advertising and stand-up comedy, joined us to award the prize for Best Advert to Ivan.Competition for Best Film Trailer was fierce with outstanding work produced by Harriette and Tan.
However, it was no surprise when the 2011 winner,
Leanne Crook, back from her studies at
Exeter, announced Rob as the winner for his gritty British gangster trailer.
Only the coveted Best Director prize remained.Whilst all the categories had been hotly contested Vania won this Award by a landslide. One of her many professionally executed co-curricular projects was screened before she picked up the R.Oscar, but it was left to her horror trailer to close the show.Gasps were stifled and eyes were covered as the tranquil surroundings of Royal Russell were transformed in to a creepy, nightmarish world.
Many pupils were responsible for the success of the show.Tan produced flyers and tickets that could have come from the golden age of
Hollywood.Ivan and Dominik made promotional posters featuring Rudi as The Terminator and a Forrest Gump tribute starring Ivan himself.Teodor blew up Adebola, splattering his limbs and head on to the screen in a reminder to turn off mobile phones.Sigournney,
Aisling,
Harry,
Callum,
Jasper and Ben volunteered to help out as they always do, ushering the crowds to their seats.Valeriya and
Darya took a break from giving and receiving up awards to take the photos but the biggest thank you of all must go to Dilshan our master of ceremonies.
