Mock London Mayor Elections - May 2012
Mayoral election fever peaked and not just in the centre of London it would seem. Pupils were also feeling campaign pressure as the election drew ever nearer.
Timed to coincide with the real London elections, the School decided to bring the excitement of the real election to those not yet old enough to participate in the official process, by running their very own mock election.

To choose the candidates students from Year 8 upwards chose which party they wanted to stand for and then had to get as many other students as possible to support their campaign. Once chosen they began campaigning - designing posters, making a speech assembly and attending a special lunchtime question time; in other words, they approached the whole process exactly as if it were real.

But as with any election there can only be one winner decided by the voters no matter how much blood and tears are spilt along the way and within the walls of Royal Russell School when the votes were cast on Tuesday 1 May the winning vote went to the Labour candidate Barty. It was a narrow call on the day with the Conservative Party coming in second place by only two votes!
