Success at Croydon Music Festival - April 2010

The Infants at Royal Russell School were on form this weekend when they both took part in the prestigious Croydon Music Festival at the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon and each won a first place cup! Year 1 won the Under 11 Recorder Ensemble Prize and Year 2 won the Infant Choirs section.

The Year Two Choir sang in the under 7s category, performing two songs: My Mum's One in a Million by Nikki Davies and Immanuel by Mark and Helen Johnson, in which they were praised for their mature singing sound, and the confidence with which they sang without a conductor. The adjudication by Philip Dewhurst was hugely encouraging and informative, and Year Two Choir was proud to win The Joy and Geoffrey Lawrence Cup, which is a new award for 2010. All three other choirs who competed each received a Distinction certificate.

Meanwhile the recorder group won the Ann Ditchburn Cup and the adjudicator praised the ensemble for their, “enjoyable performance and confident playing”.

Excellent performances all around both technically and artistically. Congratulations are due to all those who sang on Saturday.
