On Wednesday 16 November, Royal Russell competed in the Rotary International Public Speaking competition 'Youth Speaks' held at the Oasis Academy in Shirley. Barty argued fluently and persuasively on reasons why the veto of the Security Council of the United Nations should be cancelled as it was unfair and undemocratic. Michelle, as the Chairperson gave a very good introduction to both Barty and the subject and Maria concluded with her vote of thanks and perceptive, incisive explanation of the veto against Palestine's membership. All three are avid participants in Model United Nations and their fluency, confidence and maturity had no doubt been developed by their debating experiences. With bated breath, we awaited the judges' decision and were delighted when Barty was awarded 'best speaker' and the whole team won the event.
