Ethos
At Royal Russell School the Physical Education Department gives all pupils equality of opportunity to participate in a broad and balanced range of activities. All will experience working in both co-operative and competitive situations.
Through enjoyable learning experiences we foster a positive attitude towards physical activity. This produces a sense of achievement, an increase in self-confidence, and results in a healthy and active lifestyle.
Pupils will be encouraged to work with initiative and make decisions independently of the teacher, whilst working in a safe and responsible manner.
We aim that every pupil will find, challenge and ultimately reach their potential. They will also develop an awareness of the capabilities and limitations of self and others, and still nurture an attitude of sensitivity towards those pupils with special needs.
We have a full and extensive fixture list in the schools major sports of football and netball. There are further regular competitive opportunities with basketball, hockey, badminton and cricket. We also run an all-year round, Inter-House programme which is one of the mainstays of school life.
Finally on a Wednesday afternoon there is a full programme of activity from which Sixth Formers choose. At the time of writing this includes football, hockey, netball, basketball, badminton, aerobics and weights/fitness at a local gym.
