Biathlon

Across the Junior and Senior School we enter the Pentathlon GB Biathlon competitions, this series of qualifying events lead to the overall National Biathlon finals held in Solihull each November and the National schools Biathlon finals in March at Crystal Palace. Pupils have to swim from 50m to 200m and run 800m to 1600m depending on their age category. All timings equate to points with the top points scores qualifying for the National finals.

We have great success with several pupils qualifying for both finals each year, even some of the staff join in too! At last years schools finals we had a top 10 placing and at the National overall finals a top 20 ranking. Two of our pupils have been talent spotted for a youth development programme!

National Schools Biathlon Finals

The weather got far worse on Saturday night and the track was too dangerous to run on. Therefore the boys just had to swim well to rack up points, their qualifying run times would be used for the run time.

Toby and Josh both swam very well with a great pb for Toby in the 50m swim. Josh’s solid run from the nationals in Solihull gave him so great points. Josh finished 33rd and Toby 63rd out of 86, well done.

Next it was the U11 boys turn and they did not disappoint with solid swim and great pbs from Leo, Ollie and Stan. It was a nervous wait for the tem results. Individually Leo was 30th, Gabriel 40th, Oliver 53rd and Stan 99th out of 140 entrants.

To round off a great weekend the U11 Boys finished an incredible 5th out of 20 teams! Picking up a lovely team trophy. This is another piece of RR history as we have not picked up a team trophy at the National Biathlon finals before, well done!

National Schools Biathlon Finals

Millie & Islay swam and ran brilliantly at the weekend despite the snowy conditions. Millie had to run in a blizzard which was challenging! Both girls swam pbs and Islay aslo ran a pb too. Millie finished in 84th our of 143 competitors and Islay 61st out of 125! Brilliant results on a very cold and wintery day, well done girls.

National Biathlon Qualifier

Super Saturday continued in the afternoon with some excellent performances at the Ascot schools event. The pupils had to run 800m and swim 50m to score enough points for a place at the National finals in Solihul. The magic 2000 points almost guarantees qualification and all of our pupils scored over 1900 points.

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO MILLIE B, JOSHUA & GABRIEL who all scored over 2000 points! Great results from Toby, Islay and Oliver who were so close.  We have anther chance this weekend so Good Luck to our athletes.

IAPS National Triathlon

Congratulations to our 10 strong Triathlon team who performed brilliantly at the event. With some excellent swims, followed by great transitions, tough biking and finally solid running we were very impressed by the results. The team cheered each other on, persevered on the tough bike course of 2km for the Y5’s and 4km for Y6 and mostly enjoyed the event! Lots of smiles during the course and great mental strength to push through when the times were hard. What a fantastic achievement finishing when so may others did not.

National Schools Biathlon Finals

Congratulations to our National finalists. Eivie, Yasmin, Oliver & Tosin have to swim 50m and run 800m their times equate to points with a base line of 2000. Eivie in the U11 event ran and swam really well and beat her times in both disciplines to finish 84th out of 162 competitions. Yasmin in the U12 event swam a 2.5 second personal best in her swim and ran well to finish 129th out of 149 competitors. Oliver in the U10 group smashed his personal bests in both swim and run getting over the magic 2000 for the first time. He finished 71st out of 97. Tosin ran and swam well to finish 109th in a tough U11 boys group.

Well done to all, over 350 pupils enter the initial qualifying competitions, so your results are fantastic!
