Chinese New Year is not far away and this Thursday two Year 12 boys from Cambridge House went over to the Junior School to tell members of Year 3 a little bit about life and customs in China.
Duncan and Howard, both boarders, firstly gave a short presentation on Chinese traditions, especially those associated with the Chinese New Year. They then showed pupils how to use chopsticks and, more accurately, how to use them to pick up the sweets they had brought in for them! Afterwards everybody had a go at writing Chinese characters, painting the twelve signs of the Zodiac and numbers from 0-15.
At the end of the lesson, Year 3 had the opportunity to hear some real Chinese being spoken, ask questions about China and Hong Kong and of course learn a couple of words in Chinese themselves.
Gong hey fat choy! (Happy New Year!).
