Events 2017

O.R.s meet up in Sydney, Australia, for the third time in 9 years when the Old Russellians have invited their Australian ex students to an event in the city. Left to Right; Connie Ruben with daughter Alison, Sue Tanner, Bridget (Anthony) Roberts, Oliver Antrobus, Amma Owusu, Martin Tanner, Dave George, Penny (Doyle) George and Matt Clarke.

Another excellent turnout of Old Russellians this year attended Coulsdon Manor GC on Friday 7th July.

This time we were delighted to welcome three new OR’s to the society, Nigel Gorely (1969-1974), Lily Watson (nee Leslie Spurring 1972-1978) and Iain Golder (1972-1978)

The course provided an exciting challenge to the OR’s with some very good scoring in a tight finish at the end.

First place went to Tim Spurring (1973-1980) who had an exceptional round, winning the ORGS Trophy with 39 points.

Robin Parker (1969-1975) a previous winner was runner up with 38 points and the Highest Team Score went to Ian Windles’ team of himself and both Lily and Tim.

Longest Drive was won by Nigel Reed (1965-1976) who snatched the prize from Nigel Gorely at the last minute by outdriving Nigels magnificent 270 yard drive by a further 30 yards!!

Adrian Edwards picked up closest to the pin.

This year we also had the pleasure of presenting a prize for a first ever par in a competition which went to OR Chairman John Piggin!

After the game a few stayed on for a classic Ham, Egg and Chips Supper to remind us of RRS meals. Most enjoyable it was too, washed down with a decent pint.

Next years event is expected be held on Friday 6th July 2018 venue and date tbc.

Any new members are always more than welcome to join the Society.

Riverside Reunion 2017

Another great party at The Anchor pub - thanks to all those O.R.s, staff and former staff who attended. The full photo album can be viewed here:

On Saturday 13th May 2017 Royal Russell School hosted the biggest ever Biennial Reunion for Old Russellians when 130 ex-students took the opportunity to see their old boarding houses (Oxford and Cambridge) before the current pupils move into new accommodation in September. The day began with tea and coffee in reception, followed by a short Chapel service and then drinks at the Headmaster's House when the official photographs were taken. Everyone then enjoyed a wonderful selection from the school menu and the afternoon began with a recital from scholars of our Music and English departments. Ex-students then walked around the grounds, toured their old houses and looked at the excellent displays in the library before afternoon tea was served. The full photo album can be viewed:

O.R. FOOTIE 2017O.R. Footie 2017

Saturday 22nd April was the 15th annual OR football tournament (one of those was cancelled for April snow!) and my last. It was, as always, a fantastic afternoon of football and socialising. My thanks to all of the boys and staff who turned up to play, ref and watch. Particular thanks to Michael Bankole, Alex Loizou, Jamie Ivory, Ryan Walters, Jo Brockman, Connor Harbottle and Andrew Durr for organising the 7 old boy teams. As usual (7 out of the last 8 years) the Record Breakers won, this time with a 20 yard screamer from Ryan in the final. I will pass the baton on and long may this great afternoon continue.
