On Thursday 26th March the whole of Year 8 visited the Historical Dockyard in Portsmouth as part of their history studies. Despite the slightly damp start, the sun came out as we arrived in Portsmouth and a good day out was had by all. Students toured around the Mary Rose museum which has incorporated the remnants of the old ship into an interactive learning space. This is an extremely useful resource for their research for their Year 8 coursework. Students also took part in a workshop run by the Museum’s Education Department which gave them an insight into why the Mary Rose sank and the opportunity to put their detective skills to the test in the history mystery objects exercise. Since we were at the Historic Dockyard it would have been amiss if we did not visit the famous HMS Victory and so students enjoyed a tour of the ship. Overall, it was an extremely enjoyable and worthwhile trip and I must credit the students on being an absolute pleasure.
