The theme for this year’s music Dinner was ‘A Night at the Movies’, and a wide and impressive programme of music from movies old and new was performed by the combined forces of the Choristers, Barbershop, Chamber Choir, Choral Society and Swing Band, as well as a large number of solos from our very talented singers.
The Audience enjoyed their drinks and nibbles seated around beautifully prepared tables in the Great Hall, and, during the interval, dinner was served in the Dining Room, where further entertainment was provided by Mr Cook and Mr Tansley on saxophone and piano respectively. There is a lot of talent in school!
So many people worked tirelessly to make this a very special and enjoyable occasion. Special thanks must go to Mandi and Bill Wright, for organising the event, including logistics and ticketing, and for providing lovely decorations and a goody-bag for each guest and a Quiz testing the Movie knowledge of those present!
Mr Millward and Miss Parish worked very hard rehearsing and organising the musical performances. Thank you, too, to Mr Ford, Mr Bell and Miss O’Hanlon, Visiting Music Teachers who helped prepare students for their performances and provided piano accompaniment on the day. Mrs Muldoon who was indispensable helping students to choose their costumes and look the part for the occasion! Ms Willis and her Catering Team as ever provided splendid food and service to around 170 people.
The students excelled themselves, and once again we are reminded of how much musical talent we have at school. Around £1000 was raised for Music Department Funds, and we all went home with the sound of ‘New York, New York’, sung magnificently as a finale by everyone in the hall, ringing in our ears!
