Food Preparation and Nutrition is an exciting and rewarding subject. Pupils will learn how to select a nutritious diet and achieve a healthy lifestyle in line with current government guidelines. At the same time, they will learn the skills which will enable them to make a wide range of delicious dishes. They will also acquire an understanding of food safety and hygiene, how to prepare, cook and present dishes and these are valuable lessons which they will use throughout their lives.
All pupils study Food Preparation and Nutrition. Pupils learn a wide range of practical and organisation skills enabling them to produce high-quality food products which meet nutritional targets and promote good health. House competitiions are organised throughout the year.
Our GCSE course builds upon the work previously carried out in Years 7 to 9. Pupils will work with a range of foods to experience first-hand the working characteristics and processing techniques used when designing and making food products. As well as developing a sound knowledge and a wide range of practical skills, there will be opportunities for investigation of recipe ideas, experimentation, testing and exploration using IT.
