Swimming

Our swimming programme in the Junior School has expanded significantly in the last year.  Every child swims during the school year as a part of our Sports Fitness carousel of activities.  Our most confident swimmers are invited to join our Swim Squad sessions, which run before and after school.  This allows us to compete at a high level locally and nationally.  Our Year 6 boys and girls relay teams both qualified for the National Finals in Sheffield.  For those who find swimming a little harder, we offer targeted catch up sessions, where children can work on their stroke and stamina with the help of a team of well qualified swimming coaches.  Like all other sports, every child in the Upper Juniors will represent their house in a fun and noisy House Swimming Gala.

Joe swam a cracking race to WIN the Y3/4 Freestyle event. Millie and Leilani also swam brilliantly to place SECOND in their freestyle events too, with Roberto (Breaststroke) and Lorenzo (Backstroke) finishing in 3rd place. Uliana and the girls freestyle relay team of Lara, Millie, Islay and Leilani finished 4th, with Max (backstroke) and the boys freestyle relay team of Roberto, Ollie, Kaylan and Stan coming 5th. Stan (freestyle), Islay (Fly) and the girls medley team (Isay, Mille B and Mille G) all finished in 6th place. Zac also swam well. In the overall standing the girls finished 4th with the boys finishing in an amazing 2nd place!

Croydon Schools swimming Gala

The pupils all swam really well at the South Norwood 2 qualifier with some fantastic pbs.
We now wait for the 6 qualifying galas to finish to see if any pupils have made it into the top 6 and therefore qualify to the finals in March.

Trinity Fun Gala

Well done to our small group of U11 swimmers who all swam brilliantly at the Trinity gala. With a few races and relays plus a dive and glide event it was a little more relaxed than usual! Before the final race we were 2 points in the lead and needed a 2nd place finish in the final 6 x 25m relay. In a close race we took the lead at one point and then were nearly in third! However we pulled it back to finish 2nd and secure a win by just 1 point!

English Schools Primary Relay Qualifier

The Year 6 Croydon freestyle champions were keen to continue their success at the ESSA Regional qualifying event. The girls swam brilliantly to win the large schools freestyle race beating Croydon High and James Allen's Prep. With another qualifier we had an intense wait for the rankings. Whilst at the top of the Brecon Beacons Mrs Lloyd received the AMAZING news- Safia, Eryn, Lara & Eivie had only gone and qualified for the National finals!!

Well done to the girls and the swimming coaches on this fantastic achievement.

Surrey Schools Lifesaving Competition

After a busy day at the Biathlon Yasmin, Eivie and Mrs Lloyd dashed to Dorking for the Surrey Schools Lifesaving Competition. The 24 teams rotate around the pool taking part in different lifesaving events, rope throw, sculling and treading water to name a few. Both RR teams performed brilliantly working really hard to rack up key points.

After a nervous wait and the champions from the past 3 years being announced 2nd, we were over the moon to be crowned champions by 10 points!! We have never won this trophy before!! Well done Safia, Eryn, Yasmin & Eivie. Cassie, Lara, Amber & Sam finished 16th.  What fantastic results.

Thank you to the swim team for supporting the event & training the team to victory.
