Year 9 Entry (13+)

Academic Scholarships

We are delighted you are considering Royal Russell for your child.

We will meet and assess your child when they are in Year 7 or Year 8 for entry at Year 9. We do this by gathering information from a selection of sources including the Assessment Day and a School Report from your child's present school.

See below the application timeline and information on registration.

The Assessment Day

This consists of a number of activities within a day spent at Royal Russell.  We believe the day gives us an opportunity to get a well-rounded view of your child, rather than depending solely on assessment results.  The day will include:

Assessment - assessment in English, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning.  We use the Quest platform to carry out these assessments on a PC during the assessment day.  You can view tasters of the assessment, by clicking here.

Interview - we interview all candidates and ask them to bring a piece of work or an object of interest as a starting point for a discussion.

Lunch - candidates will have the opportunity to relax with their peers over a delicious Royal Russell lunch.

An activity - all candidates will take part in an activity with their peers.  We offer a range of activities for candidates to participate in and these may include sport, cooking, art, debating, design and technology or computer science.

Please note that due to the number of candidates we process each year, we do not give assessment scores or individual feedback to candidates beyond whether a place can be offered or not.
