Development and Giving

We are a family school which values the things which make each of us distinctively brilliant. Our commitment to each other is to help every member of our community strive for their vision of success – to take a wider view of what their personal ambitions are. Our Bursary and Scholarships programme is an incredibly important part of the Royal Russell identity. Our school was founded in 1853 to give the children of orphaned textile workers access to education. Now, our Bursaries and Scholarships help families ensure that finances are not a barrier to a Royal Russell education.

Our gifted students come to us from a wide range of backgrounds and from across the globe. The diversity of our community is celebrated and championed at Royal Russell, and creates a dynamic learning environment for our pupils.  Distinctive Russellians develop and grow here. Pupils learn not only from our teaching faculty but also their talented peers from around the world.  This powerful combination drives personal growth and also equips them to go out into the wider world and address some of the most compelling issues of the twenty-first century.

Ways to give

Support the Royal Russell 1853 Annual Fund

Royal Russell has a regular giving programme through its Annual Fund. The fund is for bursaries which make a real impact in the lives of the young people they benefit as well as enriching the Royal Russell community as a whole by widening access to a Royal Russell education. Our school was founded in 1853 to give children of orphaned textile workers an access to education and now we encourage parents, Old Russellians and supporters to give £18.53 a month to the campaign so that we can keep thus incredible legacy alive.

Leave a gift in your Will

Legacy gifts are an incredible way to ensure a Royal Russell education is accessible to as many young people as possible.

What types of gift can you leave?

The most common types of gifts left in Wills are:

Residuary gift: the residue (or a proportion of the residue) of an estate after all other gifts, debts and expenses have been paid.

Pecuniary gift: a fixed sum of money. This type of gift will, over time, devalue with inflation. If you want to future-proof your legacy you can ask your solicitor about index-linking your gift so its value keeps pace with inflation.

Specific gift: a particular asset, for example an investment or property.

Reversionary gift: a two-stage gift where assets are first held in a trust to provide some benefit to an individual. This could be a property for them to live in or income generated by investments.  Once that individual’s need for the property (or trust) ends, the assets then pass to a second beneficiary, such as a charity.
