Junior School Art & Design Technology

Through Art and Design Technology in the Junior School we nurture and celebrate pupils’ passion for creativity and self-expression. We aim to develop confident explorers of skills and ideas, reflective thinkers, and ambitious adventurers into new experiences. Pupils relish the opportunity to explore and learn new skills in Art and Design Technology, and their achievements are celebrated throughout the Junior School.

Our engaging and varied Art curriculum introduces pupils to inspirational artist, craft makers, designers and architects, and provides pupils with the opportunity to explore a wide range of materials and artistic mediums including drawing, painting and sculpture. Pupils learn to use colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space, alongside advancing their critical thinking skills. Every pupil is encouraged to develop their artistic skills and ideas to their fullest potential.

Our Design Technology curriculum challenges pupils to design and make products in response to a range of briefs. Pupils are encouraged to investigate existing products and materials, develop their designing and making skills alongside their technical knowledge, and evaluate their finished product. In Design Technology pupils also apply their learning about food hygiene and nutrition while developing cooking skills.

Additional Art and Design Technology opportunities enhance the curriculums each academic year, such as trips to art galleries, artist/designer workshops, collaborative projects with the Senior School, art clubs, and art competitions.

Pupil’s artworks are exhibited around the Junior School through displays and pop-up exhibitions, filling the school with creativity and self-expression and proudly celebrating the pupils’ achievements throughout the year.
