Junior School Music

Music is a subject which provides all pupils the opportunity to participate in creative, artistic and physical activity and as such, captures the imagination of children in their formative years.

We provide a broad and eclectic music curriculum, to stimulate pupils’ interest, appreciation and enjoyment of music and to develop pupils’ perceptive, sensitive and critical response to music of different forms, styles and cultures. The core musical skills of Listening and Appraisal, Composition and Performance, are taught via a wide range of theoretical and practical activities and every pupil is encouraged to develop their musical ability to their fullest potential. In addition, pupils who exhibit an innate musical ability and talent are provided with additional support and guidance.

Co-curricular choral and ensemble groups rehearse weekly and varied performance opportunities, including educational workshops to enhance pupils' musical experiences, take place throughout the academic year.

A wide-ranging programme of peripatetic instrumental tuition is available, provided by highly experienced visiting music teachers, who are also professional performing musicians.

The Junior School Music Department is situated in a purpose-built suite, comprising of a large and well-resourced class teaching room and seven instrumental teaching rooms.

Music is at the heart of Junior School life, adding a wonderful vibrancy to every day.
