GCSE RESULTS 2020
There has been a rollercoaster of emotions associated with the examination season this year and, after a period of significant uncertainty and anxiety for staff and pupils, leading up to the release of GCSE results this morning, I am delighted to report an excellent set of GCSE Results for our Year 11 cohort.
116 candidates sat for a total of 1021 GCSE awards this year. The overall results below reflect the strong performance of this cohort.

There are some particularly impressive sets of results at the top end of the year group and our top 5 candidates all achieved at least 9 grade 9s!
There were also some significant successes across the whole ability range and, when pupils came to collect results this morning, there were many smiles and a great sense of collective achievement.
We all know that this has not been a ‘normal’ examination season, but nonetheless these results reflect the hard work that pupils have completed in their time at the School. They also reflect the expertise and dedication of the Royal Russell Staff Team, including all of the academic, administration, operations and support staff and of course the huge commitment of our Royal Russell parents and families.
The last time that this group of pupils was here on site was on Friday 20 March, when the School ‘closed’. So, exactly five months later, it was wonderful to see them gathering, with their families, to share in this moment of reunion and celebration today.
Many of those I spoke to this morning, were excitedly discussing the new opportunities of the Sixth Form and were looking forward to joining their new academic courses in September. Some took the opportunity to take a look around the new extension to our Science facilities, which has been completed in preparation for the beginning of the new term.
These results confirm that we are providing an excellent academic education for our young people, alongside all of the additional care and additional opportunities that make this such a successful school.
