Core Maths

Core Mathematics Level 3 Certificate is a practical qualification designed to help you apply maths in real-life situations you’ll encounter in further study, work and everyday life. Whether you're analysing data or managing personal finances, the course focuses on useful, applied maths rather than abstract theory.

Unlike GCSE Maths, the Level 3 Certificate in Core Maths introduces new ideas that reflect the demands of modern study and employment, including data interpretation, financial modelling and logical estimation. It’s an ideal option if you want to keep developing your mathematical confidence without committing to a full A-Level.

The minimum requirement to take Core Maths will be grade 5 at GCSE.

Looking Further Ahead

The Core Maths qualification carries the same UCAS points as an AS Level and is widely recognised by universities and employers. Completing the Level 3 Certificate Core Maths shows that you can confidently handle data, interpret numerical information and apply logical thinking across different subjects.

These skills are especially valuable if you plan to progress into courses or careers where numerical understanding is essential. Students often find Core Maths particularly useful when moving into areas such as:

  • Biology
  • Economic
  • Sports Science
  • Psychology
  • Business
  • Health and Social Care
  • Geography

The qualification strengthens your university applications and gives you a strong advantage in professional, technical and creative industries that rely on practical, everyday maths.
