Upper Juniors

Children experience a smooth transition from the Lower Junior School and embrace their new opportunities and responsibilities with enthusiasm.

Our teaching goes beyond the National Curriculum, stretching children’s imaginations and encouraging them to think independently and creatively. Topics are brought to life through inspirational teaching and exciting activities and trips.

With our small class sizes we are able to know your child well and provide the individual attention they need to succeed, both academically and in the extensive range of co-curricular opportunities on offer. Our robust process for tracking pupil effort and attainment enables us to challenge and stretch children in those subjects where they demonstrate higher ability, whilst providing additional in-lesson support in those areas they may find more difficult.

Upper Junior children (Years 3 to 6) are allocated to one of four Houses, a system which encourages positive competition along with a sense of belonging and comradery across vertical groupings. Credits are given for outstanding work, effort, initiative or helpfulness and there is a keen sense of healthy competition between pupils to ensure their House achieves as many credits as possible. Inter-House competitions in Music and Sport encourage children to work as a team to achieve success.

What our Inspection Report says:

Pupils have exceptionally good reading standards, are very articulate and express themselves confidently, not only orally but in their writing which is both imaginative and factually accurate. They work very well with each other, presenting their work in a well thought out manner. This clearly demonstrates the pupils’ effort and concentration.’

The pupils’ successful achievements are supported by their excellent attitudes to learning, their outstanding behaviour and the particularly good relationships they enjoy with both their peers and with their teachers. They are well motivated; they concentrate and persevere with their work, which they thoroughly enjoy.
