Register your child

If you feel Royal Russell offers the right environment for your child, the next step is to complete our Registration Form.

A registration fee is payable at this stage as follows:

  • £150 for Nursery (VAT not applicable)
  • £180 for Junior and Senior Day pupils (inclusive of VAT)
  • £300 for Boarding places (inclusive of VAT)

Once your child is registered, we will share further information about assessments and interviews as part of the admissions process.

Assessment & Taster Day (Junior School)

Once you have applied, your child will be invited to attend an Assessment and Taster Day. This gives them the opportunity to experience life at Royal Russell Junior School and for us to get to know them beyond academic results.

The day includes:

  • Assessments in English, Maths and Non-Verbal Reasoning/Developed Ability
  • Class experience with their current year group, taking part in activities
  • Buddy system with a current pupil
  • Informal conversation with a member of the school leadership team about an item they are proud of
  • Lunch with other candidates in our dining hall

We can also provide online assessment opportunities for overseas families.

Year 6 Entry (10+)

Year 6 Entry (10+)

We assess pupils in Year 5 for entry into Year 6. This process includes an Assessment and Taster Day alongside reports from their current school.

Once in our Junior School, pupils automatically progress to our Senior School in Year 7.

  • Assessments in English, Maths and Non-Verbal Reasoning/Developed Ability
  • Class experience with their current year group, taking part in activities

  • Interview, including discussion of a piece of work or object of interest
  • Lunch with peers in our dining hall
  • Group activity, which may include sport, cooking, art, debating, design and technology or computer science

We use the Quest platform to carry out these assessments on a PC during the assessment day. You can view tasters of the assessment, by clicking here.

Please note that due to the number of candidates each year, we are unable to provide individual scores or detailed feedback beyond the outcome of the application.

Sixth Form Entry (16+)

We recommend applying by October of Year 11. Applications are considered through to the end of March of Year 11.

Entry requirements

Our standard entry requirement is 36 GCSE points from 6 subjects, including English and Maths, along with strong school reports, a Headteacher’s reference and attendance record.

Alternative qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Pupils wishing to study 4 A levels are expected to have 5 subjects at grade 8, including each subject they intend to study.
