"I really enjoy working with young people. You never know what they're going to say. Every day is different."

Emma Morris, Maths Teacher

What do you like about Royal Russell?

I really like the family feel of Royal Russell. As soon as I came in for the interview, I just found all the staff really welcoming and the pupils were lovely. I had wondered how it would be teaching in a school with boys (because I've been in an all-girls school for the last 16 years), but the boys are really, really lovely. They're always opening doors for me because I'm in a wheelchair and they're just generally really nice lads.

If you could instantly master one skill what would it be?

In form time, my Year 10s often show me the amazing artwork that they're doing. I just really admire how well they can already draw and paint already in Year 10. I've never been able to do that and I think that would be amazing to just be an instant artist!

What is an interesting fact about you?

Well, when I was at university, I was the lead singer in a female-fronted gothic metal band!

What is your favourite thing about teaching?

I really enjoy working with young people. You never know what they're going to say. Every day is different. But also, I really enjoy sharing my passion for maths and inspiring young people to continue in their mathematical education.
